Geography of Mexico

SouthernPortal_Mexico_Map
Map of Mexico

Mexico is located on the southern part of North America. To the north, Mexico is neighbors with the United States and the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea to the east and southeast respectively. Finally, Mexico is neighbors with Guatemala and Belize to the south.

Mexico's total area covers 1,972,550 square kilometers, including approximately 6,000 square kilometers of islands in the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of California. Mexico is considered the 14th largest country in the world by total area.

If you enjoy coastal areas, Mexico has 9,330 kilometers of beautiful coastline with 7,338 kilometers along the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California and 2,805 kilometers along the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Mexico's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) extends 370 km off each coast covering approximately 2.7 million square kilometers of ocean and sea territory. The land territory shape of Mexico is one where the landmass narrows as it moves southeasterly from the United States border and then curves northward ending in the beautiful 500-kilometer-long Yucatán Peninsula.
