Mexican Nationality and Citizenship

Picture
The Mexican Constitution grants Mexican nationality based on "birth" and "naturalization". Mexican laws regarding nationality by birth are very open and nationality by "birth" is granted to:

- Individuals that are born in Mexican Territory,
- Individuals born outside of Mexico, whose father or mother is Mexican by birth,
- Individuals born outside of Mexico, whose father or mother is Mexican by Naturalization,
- Individuals born in Mexican aircraft or sea vessels, whether warships or commerical vessels.

Mexican nationals by "birth" are eligible to be President of Mexico; however unlike the US Consitution, Mexican Nationals by "birth" that are born outside national territory are still eligible.

Naturalization is granted to foreign citizens by the Secretariat of Government (Ministry of Interior) and any foreign citizen that is married to a Mexican National (whether by birth or naturalization) is also eligible for Naturalization.
