About the country of Mexico: The United Mexican States, but most commonly referred to as only “México” is a federal constitutional republic located on the North American continent.

Mexico is bordered by friendly neighbors and beautiful oceans and seas. To the north, Mexico shares a 3,169 km border with the United States and a combined 1,122 km border with Belize and Guatemala to the southeast. To the west it has the North Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea to the southeast.  Finally, the Gulf of Mexico shapes its borders to the east.

Mexico is made up of thirty-one states and the capital Mexico City, known as the federal district.  Mexico City is one of the most populous cities in the world and is also the oldest city in the Americas. Each state and city in Mexico has something unique to offer, and Mexico ranks first in North, Central and South America for the number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

With approximately 2 million square kilometers, Mexico is considered the 14th largest country in the world and is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the World with a population over 114 million as of 2011.

Mexico is firmly established as an upper middle-income country and is the only Latin American member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Mexico has a lot to offer and there is a lot to learn, discover and enjoy from cultural and natural heritage, including unique Mayan and Aztec sites and well-preserved cathedrals such as the La Cathedral in Mexico City below.
